Texas Flood Hero Inspires Courage in Us All (+Workshop Replay and Guest Resource)

The Texas floods happened over a week ago and the losses have been so terrible I’ve struggled to write anything useful about it.
But then… I heard about a brand new member of the Coast Guard who quit his job as an accountant to become a rescue swimmer 6 months ago! He ended up assigned to Camp Mystic and organized the rescue of about 160 people!
And his message to the people he rescued was:
“I’m sorry this happened to you, but you were so brave and tough and that made me a better rescuer.”
He’s right. The camp counselors and young ladies who comforted each other tapped into courage they didn’t know they had. They literally sang through the pain.
If you’re working with high-risk, high need populations, I know you can relate.
The day that someone reaches out for help (or accepts the help they didn’t realize they needed), they are making a brave decision. Let it inspire you to be brave in the therapy room too. Help them find a song through the rain.
Grab your tissues. The story of Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskin is linked in the Joy Intervention section.

The Working Phase project is about obsessively doing whatever necessary to help therapists like you take care of yourself.
And in last week's supporter workshop, we discussed a significant component of burnout prevention: keeping track of your ideas, tasks, and calendar so you can stop losing important thoughts.
I want you to feel like you know what to do in every session, every time you open your laptop, every time you run an errand.
The chicken-with-its-head-cut-off vibe doesn't look good on anyone. But it happens to us a lot in spite of how smart we are!
That's because this job uses so many parts and facets of our personhood.
So that’s what this workshop is for, to help you access more of yourself, right when you need it.
If you are already a monthly WP Supporter: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS. I already upload all resources into your Library. In fact, reply to me if you can’t find it because I will personally visit your window with my bluetooth speaker if needed, John Cusack-style.

If you haven’t yet become a WP supporter: you can access the replay for just $27.
I charge hundred$$ per hour to write and present these types of custom workshops in other settings, so $27 is an absolute gift. Download it now!
Along with a link to download the replay video, you’ll get:
- The outline (so you can follow along easily)
- The slides (for my visual learners)
- The APA reference list (for my deep readers)
- And additional recommended free tools (hello action-takers!)
You can download everything on your laptop, phone, whatever! I know you’ll get something great from this and can’t wait to hear all about what you do next.
