A therapist is at their best in a session when they are focused, attuned, and not distracted by their own discomfort or biological needs.

This can be extremely difficult for therapists with significant chronic pain issues.

These therapists make all kinds of unseen special accommodations that take time, money, and effort. Therapists with chronic pain issues still make sure to give clients what they need even, if when it’s been a tough day.

If you’ll indulge me, I’m gonna get a little personal.

I struggled for years with untreated migraines.

I didn’t understand the cause of my migraines, and I didn’t know if starting medication would put a pregnancy at risk.

And then, when it finally came time to have my child, I nearly denied a standard c-section and requested an even higher risk procedure because I was so afraid that the epidural  puncture would add cerebrospinal headaches to the mix.

Today, I’ve thankfully found a successful migraine management solution, but I’m sharing this because I know there are tons of other therapists like me.

I also know people who have had major headaches due to cerebrospinal fluid leaks.

I have friends who have headaches that won’t go away for weeks.

And regardless of how we feel, we stare at a screen for 8+ hours a day because clients deserve that predictable, warm presence.

The HEADACHE Act in its current form is bipartisan and adds takes no additional dollars from the federal budget.

If you’re in the US: Please take 30 seconds to lend your support to the bill if you can.
